Once the roof iron has been laid and initially fixed in place, identify the first purlin along the gutter line.
Loosen the fixing screws along this purlin sufficiently to allow insertion of the Bug Plugg.
Install the Bug Pluggs sequentially, working methodically from one end of the roof to the other.
Using the designated installation tool, push each Bug Plugg firmly into position. The tool includes reference measurements to ensure each plug is seated at the correct depth and alignment.
Once all Bug Pluggs are correctly positioned, re-secure the roof iron by tightening the gutter-line fixing screws to the specified torque.
Ridge Line Installation
Remove existing ridge flashings carefully, retaining fixings where appropriate.
Ensure roof cladding beneath the ridge is fully secured and in sound condition.
Position Bug Pluggs directly onto the roof cladding along the ridge line, ensuring consistent placement along the full length of the ridge.
Due to Bug Pluggs sitting approximately 10 mm higher than the roof cladding profile, existing ridge flashings will not provide adequate cover. New ridge flashings must be installed to accommodate the increased height and maintain weather-tightness.
Fix ridge flashings in accordance with standard ridge fixing practice, securing the Bug Pluggs in their final position.
Temporary Fixing (If Required)
If temporary retention of Bug Pluggs is required during flashing installation, apply a small amount of double-sided tape to the under side of the Bug Plugg only avoiding hollow parts of the profile..
Tape must be positioned so it does not obstruct airflow paths or drainage channels, which are essential for effective ventilation and moisture control.
Installation Notes & Good Practice
Bug Pluggs increase the effective height of the ridge interface by approximately 10 mm above the roof cladding profile.
This height increase applies to ridge line installations only and does not affect gutter line (eaves) installations.
For ridge line retrofits, existing ridge flashings are generally not sized to accommodate the additional height created by Bug Pluggs.
To maintain weather-tightness and correct flashing cover at the ridge, replacement ridge flashings with adequate upstand and cover dimensions are required.
