Installation Guidelines - New Roof

Eaves / Gutter Line

  1. Once the roof iron has been laid and initially fixed in place, identify the first purlin along the gutter line.
  2. Loosen the fixing screws along this purlin sufficiently to allow insertion of the Bug Plugg.
  3. Install the Bug Pluggs sequentially, working methodically from one end of the roof to the other.
  4. Using the designated installation tool, push each Bug Plugg firmly into position.
  5. The tool includes reference measurements to ensure each plug is seated at the correct depth and alignment.
  6. Once all Bug Pluggs are correctly positioned, re-secure the roof iron by tightening the gutter-line fixing screws to the specified torque.

Ridge Line Installation

  1. Prior to installing ridge flashings, ensure the roof iron is fully secured.
  2. Position the Bug Pluggs directly onto the roof iron along the ridge line.
  3. Place the ridge cap over the iron, ensuring the Bug Pluggs remain correctly aligned.
  4. Fix the ridge capping in place, which will secure the Bug Pluggs as part of the final fastening process.

Temporary Fixing (If Required)

  • If temporary retention of Bug Pluggs is required during flashing installation, apply a small amount of double-sided tape to the under side of the Bug Plugg only avoiding hollow parts of the profile..
  • Take care that the tape does not obstruct any drainage or airflow channels, as these are critical to maintaining effective ventilation and allowing moisture to disperse as intended.

Installation Notes & Good Practice

  • Bug Pluggs must be installed without blocking designed ventilation openings.
  • Do not over-compress plugs during fixing.
  • Installation should be carried out in conjunction with the roof cladding manufacturer’s installation guidelines.

  • Recommendation: Installation of a Drip edge flashing for gaps between bottom purlin leading edge and back of fascia of a roof compatible material. The drip edge flashing must be installed prior to the installation of Bug Pluggs to eliminate construction gaps.
